Truths and Deeds!

Overtime, I have tried to accept the display of violence, but find that I simply can never get comfortable with how people embrace the so called jungle justice syndrome. I have tried to rationalize the fact that, victims of these atrocities often deserve the maltreatment for their crimes still, I get this awful feeling that something has gone terribly wrong with how people perceive our justice system. I do understand why people always find ways to vent or express their anger and frustrations at the inadequacies of our law enforcement agencies, but each time I arrive or witness a scene of violence fear leaps into my heart. Yet I live in a society where such scenes are common place. You see, right from when i was a kid, watching grown ups fight, or get bitten regardless of the reason behind it, raced my heart much faster than it should, but not out of intrigue. I envy people who simply embrace these scenes without qualms, and who could just as easily incite or participate in them. Post

The event, put together by the Committee of Tiv Student (CTS) on behalf of all Tiv Students, featured a procession, music, dance, drama and other customary displays for the first half of the day. The second part of the day featured a 'Burn Fire' ritual, more music and dance and 'Kumashe u Tiv' contest. The significance of Tiv Day reaches far. It is important to note that events like these aim at showcasing Benue and her people. There are special dates reserved for other ethnic groups studying at the University, the Idomas and Igedes inclusive. Coincidentally, the Igbos celebrated with along side the Tivs this time around.
